DOMINICA Dominika-Caribbean pearl

 tháng 1 05, 2013     No comments

Dominica is a hidden jewel of Caribbean. The lack of long sandy beaches and unaccessible to large airplanes account for tourist underdevelopment. There are no large hotels, the roads are bad and most shops can not meet the needs of affluent tourists. Deficiencies are also advantages Island: Dominica is one of the most naturally preserved Caribbean island. Among other things on Dominica part of movie The Pirates of the Caribbean has been made.

Clear waters and an abundance of food in the surrounding water also attracts whales. Here are held throughout the year. Therefore, it is worthwhile to go out with one of the smaller ships for whale watching   www.divedominica.com (They've also got afordable accomodation).
As a substantial likelihood is that you will enjoy one of the most beautiful performances that nature has to offer! Especially attractive are meetings with bullhead whales, with high raised tail fin, which dive a few thousand feet deep!

Mountainous volcanic island is covered with rain forest. The interior is divided by deep valleys in which can be found volcanic activity in the form of sulfur springs. At some places the hot water runs in to a small basin, which is thus converted into a comfortable bathtub. Anyone who has not got the time and willingness to multi-day trekking through the rainforest could experience the jungle tram. It can be a convenient way to get to know at least a piece of the rainforest. In fact, open gondolas offer a special look because they are raised among the peaks of the highest trees. The lift was built in accordance with strict environmental requirements.

So much fruit abundance is difficult to see anywhere else! Everything edible grows under the tropical sun can be tasted at the market in the island's capital Roseau. Specialy on Saturdays, when farmers bring their produce from near and far.
It is possible to find a piece of paradise for less than 30 Euros per day. One of these options are bungalows Hibiscus Valley Inn www.hibiscusvalley.com  The bungalows are situated a few kilometers away from the sea, but there is a river near by. Wooden bungalows have some bamboo furniture and large bed under the mosquito net, which protects you from annoying insects. The biggest attraction, however, is a veranda with a hammock.

I was fascinated by the estate of Papillote www.papillote.dm  The owner is American lady Anne Baptiste who made a botanical garden along with accommodation. It is possible to admire more than one hundred different types of plants, including the rare orchids. Most of the food is purchased in the village, as well she is providing permanent employment to locals. Anns garden is a real natural classroom where guests can learn about many edible plants, magnificent tropical trees, flowers and a large varied fauna: small birds and butterflies are sometimes coming in the rooms and the restaurant, colorful lizards are making a company, there are frogs, spiders, non-poisonous snakes and opossums. Best of all is to indulge in a small pools with thermal water. At the edge of the garden there is a picturesque waterfall with a pool.

Dominica is the only island which has preserved community of Carib indians. Unfortunately, not many retain cultural heritage, nor their language. Some know the individual words, many of which are part of the island's Creole language. Also some old story and part belief and dances are still preserved. Just enough that tourists are interested in. This is one of the sources of income for them.

The island does not have air links with Europe. One of the cheapest option  is to fly to French Martinique or Guadeloupe and then taking the catamaran to neighboring Dominica.
