My top places:
-Arad, nice town for begining, near the Hungarian and Serbian border.
-Sibiu, medievial pearl
-Sighisoara, one of the best old towns, Vlad's (Dracual) birth place
-Brasov, be in the medievial town for the Juni festival (in May). Sinaia with mountains (cable care) and castle Peles is not far away. And a visit to supposed Dracula castle Bran is also less then hour away. They say, Vlad Tepes was never there, but when he became Dracula, he came...
-Transylvanian villages-Biertan, Viscri, Miklosvar, Zalanpatak... - still unspoiled, rural life! Bears, foxes, hors carts all around.
-Bucovina and the painted monasteries
-endless beaches of Mamaia
-Birds paradise in Danube delta
Roads – are of all sorts, from ideal brand new, to really bad ones, and dangerous during the night because of unlit carts, potholes...
Accommodation starts from 10 eur per room, but it is worth to spend more at some realy unique places!
Arad – Best westeren Central hotel www.bwcentral.ro
I decided to book a room at the Best Western Central as well-known hotel chain should be ensured that four-star really means 4*, Exterior cube tower is kind of reminiscent of the socialist times, but shady garden with a restaurant is a promising pleasant refuge. I was pleasantly surprised by nice interior. And this quiet place is just a few steps away from the main road in the city center....
This hotel is located in attractive medievial house. The room was nice, with rustic furniture, bathroom spacious, and they serve delicious food in their restaurant downstairs. It is interesting, that just a few meters away stands the house in which Vlad Tepes - Dracula was born. When my curtain pop up in the early morning, I thought about the vampires, but nothing happend.... Perhaps I am not their blood type... I felt like moving some centuries back in time...
Prince Charles's estates - Zalanpatak village - www.transylvaniancastle.com
you will hardly find it on a map of Romania. No wonder I had quite a few problems traveling between the Transylvanian hills and last miles along the gravel road that led through the woods. Finally a signpost welcomed me. The locals take for granted directed me to the last property in the village, with the lovely fence and cluster of white houses.I immediately felt at home. One of the guides gave me a quick tour. The interior looked like a museum, but is alive, it is possible to sleep in the houses. All rooms are carefully restored and furnished with antique furniture. For the convenience they are provided with modern mattresses and bathroom. In vain you search the TV ... which is how it should be, because it really doesnt fall within the old times.

So far the guests have a choice of five rooms, some more will be arranged. Guests, of course, are not left to themselves. There is always someone who speaks English and knows the village. The guides are also the environmentalists, if necessary, the receptionists, entertainers, bartenders and much more. So you can go for bear watching, also encounters with wolves are possible. I've seen just many birds, deer, foxes and various flora. You can also go horseback riding or enjoy a romantic carriage rides, in winter with sleigh.
Food was awsome: homemade delicacies, Transylvanian cuisine along with excellent wines (I think from Prahova valley). Of course it should be noted that most of the food comes from local farms. You can bring a nice souvenir from here: a jar of honey, jams, spirits, and more.
Locals do not care about tourists who wander in remote village. There are two stores, which are also a pub where the locals like to sit in the evenings. They also have a school and a church. Most are still living like in the past. The agriculture is the main source of income, doing it like in old times-practically free of chemicals, fertilizers and agricultural machinery. Therefore, the surrounding grassland biodiversity is unique...
Miklosvar
Count Tibor Kalnoky takes care about prince Charles's possessions and he's got some houses to rent in Mikloshvar as well. All of them are carefuly restored and furnished in rustic style. Real oportunity to fell the charms of a comfortable stay in the countryside!Staying in a house and sleeping in the beds from the times of our grandparents worked for me soothing, and I liked nature walks and socializing with other guests with similar views. Dinner is also one of the features and at the large table for guests I quickly felt like at a family event ... And count Kalnoky is very interesting person.
Please do not write too nice about this place! " said someone, "I do not want that too many people are aware of this paradise …"

Staying at a such unique place (not mentioned, it is owned by prince Charles) is worth a trip on a bad road. Village is very charming and people are nice. Rooms are furnished with original old furniture and equipped with a number of items including picture of the last owner of the house- They conjure up a feeling of times from the long past. There is allways a helpfull guide in the house who speaks English and walks with the guests around - to the fortified church, to the Gypsy brick maker, forest... Food is localy grown and very delicious, specialy acompanied with a good romanian wine... This is the place to be if you like to fell the Transylvanian rural life!
Zabola – estate of count Mikes family http://www.zabola.com/home/
Staying at the property makes you feel like a king - walking along shadow paths in park with lakes and ponds, past castles... Rooms are spacious, rustically furnished, and with so peaceful surroundings. Lawn behind the house is ideal for lunch or dinner in the nature - the food was good, portions large, the staff very friendly...Definitely place to go, if you want to be away from the city life... But own transport is a must.

Iaki hotel – Mamaia
Attractive and expensive hotel has got a nice location just near the beach. It is worth to stay in the room with a sea view. Rooms are well and nice equiped, food is good and restaurant very nice. I liked the outdoor tables near the fountain and the pool. If you have time it is worth to visit their spa center. Constanta is just a short bus ride away...and you can even reach the suburbs by cable car during the summer!
