Tara sa Cebu & Bohol!

 tháng 3 14, 2016     nature     No comments

A long weekend spent in Cebu-Bohol Trip can be short, but it is possible to do a lot of things with this tight schedule. With pre-booking and organizing your itinerary well, your trip will surely be an awesome and worthwhile experience.

Here are some of the outdoor activities you can do and be included in your itinerary:
1. Canyoneering in Kawasan Falls

PhP1200/pax (25USD)

Kawasan Falls is located in Badian, which is a southern part of Cebu. It is a three-hour drive from city center of Cebu. It is advisable to just rent a car or taxi to go here for a more comfortable travel to the destination.

Canyoneering is a water sports and an outdoor activity which includes swimming, hiking and cliff diving. We had fun doing this activity as a highlight in our Cebu itinerary. Do not miss out this in your itinerary.

Attire
aqua shoes
(or any non-slippery footwear for water)
rash guard

Taxi to Badian
approx. 3-hr travel time
PhP3000 (65USD)

2. Go to Alona Beach (Bohol)

This is your last stop from Tubigon route and your entry point for dolphin watching and island hopping for snorkeling. From Tubigon ferry terminal, you shall go to the popular tourist spots in Bohol. It includes the chocolate hills, tarsier sanctuary, man-made forest, Lobo river and zipline.

There are several restaurants and establishments not only along the sea shore but also along the roads going to the said beach for tourists to have fun and dine in. So be sure to explore the Alona beach at night.

3. Dolphin Watching and Snorkeling in Balicasag Island (Bohol)
Tips and reminders
It is advisable to go there early in the morning to avoid the crowded area in the island. 6am is an ideal time to leave Alona Beach. Best time to see and spot the dolphins is from 7am-8am. During holidays or long weekends, expect a big crowd in the snorkeling area. This is why it is important for you to leave early for these activities.

Fees
Boat rental to Balicasag Island and dolphin area
PhP2,500 -max 10 pax (54USD)
Entrance to Balicasag Island
PhP200/pax (5USD)

4. Zip line
Loboc Eco-Tourism Adventure Park
PhP350 (7.5USD) : round-trip of separate lines

For me, this zip line is the highlight of this trip. If you are a nature lover and adventurous, you will surely love this activity. At the middle of the zip line, you will pass over the Loboc
river. It is a wonderful view up there.

5. Loboc river cruise
with lunch buffet
PhP450/pax (10USD)
With its emerald calm river, it is really a relaxing experience here in Loboc river for two hours. Just appreciate the wonders of nature and the calmness of the area. In terms of the lunch buffet, the food was not too bad as well, but do not expect too much. The price is reasonable enough. It is still a buffet plus a river cruise.

6. Visit the Bilar Man-Made Forest
No entrance fee for this sight because it is just located along the road and there are blind curves, so be sure to be careful and to be cautious of the passing fast vehicles in this area.

7. Visit the Chocolate Hills
PhP50 (1USD)

This is the most popular tourist place in Bohol, so expect a lot of people here and it gets a little crowded. But it has a majestic view up there, do not miss out to see these hills. Do not forget to cover up (protect yourself from the sun) and hydrate well.
These hills, approximately 1,500 in number, turn to chocolate brown during the dry season.
8. Visit the Philippine Tarsier & Wildlife Sanctuary
PhP60/pax (1.5USD)

Tarsier is an animal which is nocturnal, so being quiet during your visit will surely help you to be able to spot them and not to disturb them as well in their natural habitat.
Philippine Tarsier

The Philippine Tarsier is one of the smallest species of monkeys in the world and their heads are able to turn 360 degrees so that this primate can see behind it without moving its body.

As a summary of what you can expect in a Cebu-Bohol trip, here is the travel video below:

7 Places For A Day Hike Trip

 tháng 8 29, 2015     nature     No comments

Planning for a trip this weekend but you can't be away for a long period of time? Why not just go for a day hike for some nature encounter instead?

The Philippines has a lot to offer in terms of biodiversity. With its topography consisting of dense forests, mountainous terrains, plains, and seaside areas, it is definitely a hot spot for nature trips and different activities which people from the city can easily access and go to.

Nowadays, hiking is one of the well-known recreational activities not only for millennials, but also for all ages. There a lot of places to choose from for nature encounter such as trekking. Here is a list of some of the best places to go for a day hike just outside Metro Manila:

Mt. Makiling
Los Baños, Laguna
4hrs++ to summit
1,486 MASL (Peak 2)
PhP900++/pax
Start of the trek to Mt. Makiling
MakTrav (Makiling Traverse) is an alternative to a Mt. Makiling hike to the summit. This is highly recommended if you want a better experience of the rainforest, which includes its vascular flora.
Mt. Makiling
The entry point would be in San Felix in Santo Tomas Batangas, as the exit point would be in UP-Los Baños, Laguna. This can also be your training for a major outdoor activity or climb. Be careful for the possible leech “limatik” encounter here. Don’t worry. It’s part of the adventure and your Mt. Makiling experience.

Mt. Pinatubo

boundaries of Zambales, Pampanga and Tarlac
1.5hrs (4x4 jeepney ride) + 2hrs++ to the crater
960 MASL
PhP2000++/pax
The Mt. Pinatubo crater

Mt. Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano and it last erupted in 1991. Vast plain of “lahar” or white volcanic sand can be seen as you start your journey to the crater. The only entry point is in Brgy. Sta Juiana, Capas, Tarlac. It is advisable to arrange ahead of time for the 4x4 jeepney.
Start of the trekking after the 4x4 jeepney ride

The 4x4 ride is bumpy and very dusty. Please bring anything to cover yourself from the dust. You will be passing though streams so prepare extra pair of footwear or just wear sandals (mojos)/quick dry trekking shoes.

The color of Mt. Pinatubo crater changes from blue to green to brown, depending on the season you plan to go.

Mt. Manalmon

San Miguel, Bulacan

The view from the summit is really amazing. The trail is easy to follow. If it is your first time to hike, this day hike is recommended. Bring sun protection and coverings, as the summit is bare, steep grassland and with strong wind up there.

If you want to enjoy beach and hike at the same day, then this is just right for you. Part of the trail is to
pass by a waterfalls. You can add this to your itinerary and also enjoy Laiya beach at the foot of the mountain
. The  The entry point for Mt. Daguldol is in Brgy. Hugom.

So, what are you waiting for? Get your backpack and just go.

Gentle Reminders
1. Day hike also means pack light. You should not bring too much in your backpack. It is an important factor for your convenience in this kind of activity.

2. Always get a local guide (most of the time, the local municipality will require you to have one). It is not only for helping their livelihood and community but also it is for your own safety and security. It is important to have someone guiding you in unfamiliar places like these.

3. As you enjoy your hiking and nature trips, let us all make a conscious effort in maintaining and preserving these areas. We are here not only as audiences and visitors to these places, but also as stewards of the wonders of nature.
